Rent and internet usually live in two separate worlds. A tenant pays late, and nothing happens to the Wi-Fi until someone chases for weeks.
We built Rent Guard for landlords who include internet in the rent.
How it works:
- You switch it on and choose a grace period of 3 or 5 days.
- On the day after rent is due, the tenant gets an SMS and their internet speed is lowered.
- If rent is still unpaid after the grace period, the connection is paused and they get a second SMS.
- You mark rent as paid, and everything comes back straight away.
It also closes the common loopholes. Signing out, clearing the browser, using a neighbour's account or a guest voucher does not bring a paused tenant back online, and the tenant only sees a simple "your internet is paused because rent has not been paid" page. Phone numbers work in South African and Namibian formats.
If you already have a system that records payments, it can connect too. The Rent Guard API lets your own software tell us who has paid:
- Every request is signed, time-limited and used only once.
- A key belongs to one landlord and can only report paid or unpaid for that landlord's own residents. It cannot read personal details or change settings.
- A request that would flag many residents as unpaid at once is held for your approval instead of cutting people off.
- Tested example code for Node.js, Python, C# and shell is in the guide, ready to copy.
Rent Guard is off by default and is part of ISN Free WiFi. The guide is here: iISN Free WiFi - ISN Free WiFi
