Free WiFi That Closes on Time: Opening Hours for Libraries and Community Venues

14 October 2026

Not every WiFi network is there to make money. Libraries, community halls, schools, clinics and municipal hotspots offer WiFi for free, and the person looking after it still carries the cost and the risk.

That is why ISN Free WiFi comes with Opening Hours.

You set the hours for each day of the week, or mark a day as closed, and add a short message for your guests. The captive page then shows a clear "we are closed" notice with the next opening time. Closing after midnight works too, for example 18:00 to 02:00.

What it does for the person running the network:
  • After hours, no new access can start. No one can sit outside the building at midnight and use up the data you pay for.
  • Fewer worries about what happens on your network when nobody is there to watch it.
  • It is enforced on our server, so a guest cannot get round it by editing the page.

What it does for the guests:
  • Anyone already online is never cut off. What they earned or paid for runs until it ends.
  • A payment already in progress is never blocked, so nobody is charged without getting access.
  • If the feature ever has a fault, it fails open instead of switching the WiFi off.
  • It takes two minutes to set under Network, then Opening hours, and it is described in our docs for anyone who wants the detail.
If you run free WiFi for a community and the data bill or the after-hours risk keeps you up at night, this is the setting to turn on first.
