Redundancy by Design: How ISN Free WiFi Keeps Guests Connected When Your Internet Line Drops

2 October 2026

Two towers, same hill, two independent paths to stay connected. That's the idea behind redundancy, and it's exactly how Multi-WAN failover works on your guest WiFi.

If a router has a backup internet connection already wired up (think fibre with an LTE line as backup), ISN Free WiFi switches guest traffic over automatically the moment the primary line goes down, and switches back the moment it recovers. No manual intervention, no guest ever notices.

It's not just "is the cable plugged in" either. On MikroTik it uses RouterOS's own gateway health checks, so it catches the far more common real failure: the line is physically connected but the ISP upstream has actually stopped responding. On OpenWRT-based routers it runs on mwan3, the standard tool for exactly this job. Either way, you get an alert the moment a failover happens, and a running history of every switch, right on your dashboard.

Downtime shouldn't mean lost revenue. With us, it doesn't have to.
